The Heritage Party Demands End to Prosecutors' Ineffectiveness
Excerpts from a letter sent to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia from Anahit Bakhshyan, Member of the Heritage Faction in the National Aseembly
The general public as well as the Director of the National Assessment and Testing Center (Aravot daily, Exams Leaked, 09.06.2010) have established that this year's general exams for graduating schoolchildren have been leaked and sold to some of the students, who thus received unfairly high grades.
The main body to bear the blame for this incident is the Prosecutor's Office, who did not duly investigate similar incidents last year, did not discover the identities of the people behind them, did not punish the culprits and thus facilitated the continued prevalence of illegal activities in the education sector and the cover up of the low quality of education in some schools. Your role should be the exact opposite.
I request you to provide the following information within the next 10 days, in accordance with article 7 of the Armenian law on 'the Statute of the National Assembly' –
1. Why has the Prosecutor General's office not responded to information about these illegal activities?
2. What has the Prosecutor General's office done to investigate these incidents over the past year?
The public demands an end to the ineffective work of your institution. We expect an investigation revealing the identities of the people behind these incidents and the establishment of justice, which will facilitate the formation of a feeling of trust towards the state by members of the public.
