Photo-journalist Gagik Shamshyan reports that members of an organized crime group were taken into custody earlier today with a large quantity of arms and ammunition.

Shamshyan also states that the son of a top-ranking government official is one of the suspected criminals taken into custody by police, but says he cannot reveal his name given the on-going investigation.

There is speculation that the group has been responsible for a number of recent break-ins at the homes of former and current government officials in which family members were physically assaulted and threatened by gang members to hand over their valuables.

Reports state that members of the RA Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit swooped down on several residences where the members of the crime gang were said to be residing.

A damaged Mercedes Benz, seen here, was also seized by police in the early morning raid.
