Zhora Sapeyan Released from Artik Prison
Opposition activist headed Talin campaign for Ter-PetrosyanZhora Sapeyan, who served as the Talin campaign manager for Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the 2008 presidential election, was released today from the Artik correctional facility.
Mr. Sapeyan and his brother Mkrtich Sapeyan were arrested after an incident that took place in Talin on January 27, 2008during a Ter-Petrosyan campaign stop. They were charged with "hooliganism" and incarcerated. The opposition has always claimed that the incident was instigated by supporters of the government. Zhora Sapeyan spent the full 2.5 year sentence behind bars.
Zhora Sapeyan fought in the Karabakh war of liberation and heads the Republic Party branch in Aragatzotn Marz. His brother Mkrtich heads the Yerkrapah Union in Aragatzotn.
