Prime Minister Calls for Country-Wide “Clean-Up” Drive

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan gave his approval today for a national program designed to improve the ecological and sanitary situation in the country, especially the urban areas. Entitled "A Clean Fatherland", the program will allow for perfecting the legislative arena, better use of resources for protecting the natural environment, and changing the attitude of the public towards the environment. The government has set a twenty day deadline for ministries and state agencies to devise a framework of action for the program. "Armenia is face with the urgent task of maintaining a clean environment. On roads leading in and out of Yerevan, the situation is intolerable," declared PM Sargsyan, adding that everyone must get involved in keeping the country clean. "Our attitude towards the surrounding environment must radically change," he noted.
