During a working visit to the NKR on August 29, RoA President Serzh Sargsyan visited the new Public School 11 in the capital of Stepanakert. There he fielded questions from the teachers. One asked about the Azerbaijani resolution to be presented to the United Nations about Karabakh. Q – Today, the NKR is developing daily. We are building the country with our own hands. But Azerbaijan today constantly strives to present resolutions in the United Nations and other world bodies that distort the truth about the NKR. How long will Baku continue on this course and don’t they understand that this is another republic that is no longer tied to Azerbaijan? A – You should ask this of Aliyev. All I can speak about is what Armenia is doing and what the policy is of a large segment of the Armenian people. I also am a bit surprised that you are surprised over the course taken by Baku and that it should upset you so. Perhaps, a bit of concern is in order but it shouldn’t affect our actions. You are here to teach and educate kids, to make them want to learn, not only in school but in general. Those like you in such a critical field also make a contribution to overall national strategy. Yes, there is talk that Baku will most likely be presenting a resolution to the U.N. on September 9. But, whether or not it is passed, it can have no real impact on Armenia or Artsakh, neither economically or in the security sector. Most of those who will be siding with Azerbaijan when it comes to a vote will be those nations belonging to the Islamic Conference. But I am convinced that those nations who wish to see the matter settled by peaceful means will vote against the measure or at least abstain from voting. These countries understand that such resolutions cannot but hurt the negotiations process. Again, let me again request that you ask what we are doing today. Our efforts are constantly aimed at making Azerbaijan and the rest of the world realize that there is no turning back, that Karabakh will never return to the Azerbaijani fold. Karabakh has already proven itself to be an established state, a small one perhaps with a myriad of problems. Nevertheless, it is a state that will grow even stronger and develop.
