Rule of Law MP Denies Rumors Linking Baghdasaryan with Cognac Plant
Presently, a cognac plant is being built in the Voskevaz village in Aragatzotn Marz. If construction continues apace, the plant should start operating in a few months.
Local rumour has it that Artur Baghdasaryan, head of the Rule of Law Party in Armenia and Secretary of the National Security Council, is financing the project. Another name mentioned as an investor is Nver Mkhitaryan, a businessman from Ukraine. Hetq caught up with Rule of Law Party MP Hovhannes Margaryan and asked him some questions.
Are there Rule of Law MP’s that own businesses?
We are engaged in making laws and our MP’s keep their activities within legal parameters. There are no such MP’s.
What about your party’s leader, Artur Baghdasaryan? Does he own any business?
No, he doesn’t own any business.
Does the cognac plant now being built in Voskevaz belong to him?
Is it a sin for some sons of Armenia to invest in the RA? We have already explained that it is one thing to support something and another to be engaged in Business.
Has Artur Baghdasaryan supported the plant by investing in it?
By supporting I mean that he convinced others to invest in Armenia. We’ve talked about this and I don’t want to repeat names. As for party members, sure, we have lots of business owners. Our party has 100,000 members; it’s only natural.
But in Voskevaz, they say that the plant belongs to Baghdasaryan.
I’ve told you in simple Armenian that it doesn’t. He’s assisted, supported it through his close personal relations with an investor from Ukraine. Everyone knows this. The plant will supply many new jobs. Go there and you’ll see just how excited the villagers are because they now are working on the construction and will have jobs later on as well.
