On October 11, during the field mission of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs to Artsakh, Co-Chair Bernard Fassier stated that the main aim of the visit was to allow the Co-Chairs to form a better picture of the situation on the ground. "Of the three, I am the only one who has visited the territories adjacent to Nagorno-Karabakh back in 2005. Since the Russian and American Co-chairs have since changed, my current colleagues haven’t had the opportunity to visit these areas. This is the reason for the visit," said Mr. Fassier. Mr. Fassier said that two of the three experts in the delegation represent the U.N. High Commission for Refugee Affairs based in Geneva. "Those experts have met and talked with many people in the areas and villages and they will assist us in evaluating the humanitarian needs existing," said Fassier, adding that the delegation had already visited six of the NKR’s seven regions. After visiting Karvatchar today, the mission will end. U.S. Co-chair Robert Bradtke noted that the delegation plans to eventually visit other areas involved in the conflict and which influence its peaceful settlement.
