BHK MP Zurabyan – “Polls show we can win a majority”

Commenting on the recent political tit-for-tat between the HHK and the BHK, both ruling coalition forces, MP Naira Zurabyan said that such verbal jousting was normal even two years before the next round of parliamentary elections. Recently, BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan had told the press that his party would be going all out to win a majority of seats in Armenia’s National Assembly. In response HHK MP Karen Avagyan commented that his party was a heavyweight in the political ring and that no one could compete on an equal level. We asked MP Zurabyan if the two erstwhile allies had already entered the campaign fray so far in advance of the elections. I find all this to be quite normal and I don’t believe that the pre-election campaign has yet begun. The parties have just started to intensify their actions, including public relations. As regards the statements of the HHK and BHK, they’re par for the course. I really don’t see anything bizarre here. As a BHK representative, I can verify what Gagik Tsarukyan has said. Yes, we want to achieve a majority. It would have been strange for us to say from the outset that we would throw our hat into the ring just to come in 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Everything depends on how the people will vote, in whom they trust. We asked if the BHK conducts opinion surveys to gauge its share of the electorate. All the time. Not only does the party carry out such surveys but we have at our disposal the findings of numerous other independent and even international public surveys. Now isn’t the correct time to disclose those findings. That will come later. All I can say is that the findings support our claim of achieving a majority, something which BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan has already stated.
