Artavaz Residents Sue Government Over Land Transfer
Government protecting interests of a Saudi sheikh, not public
Today, the RA Court of Cassation accepted the case of 36 residents of the community of Artavaz protesting the government’s February 25 decision to hand over 96 hectares of land to the A&M Rare company in order to build a water bottling plant.
One month ago, a lower court threw out the residents’ lawsuit which contested the government’s claim that the move was in the "public interest".
Artavaz residents argued that the land was being handed over to a private concern engaged in commercial interests.
Sheikh Muhammed Musallam, from Saudi Arabia, is reported to be a major financial backer of the proposed water bottling plant.
