Vahram Tatikyan - Dolphinarium Amounts to Sacrilege
Let them build it in Etchmiadzin or next to National Assembly
Writer and composer Vahram Tatikyan today declared that he will start a hunger strike, protesting the construction of a "dolphinarium" in the vicinity of the Komitas Pantheon, as of tomorrow.
"It’s absurd to build such a thing on that location. We are losing the soul of the city. The mayor’s office, hiding behind certain people, is building a commercial enterprise. They’ll build restaurants and discos there. The graves of Armenian notables will be trampled," Mr. Tatikyan stated at a press conference today.
A group of young activists will lend moral support by cleaning up the Pantheon, planting saplings and staging cultural events.
"This is sacrilege. Just imagine if an outdoor aquarium were to be built in Etchmiadzin or on the National Assembly grounds. Now that would be a great location. Our weary MP’s couls soothe their shattered nerves by watching dolphins swim round and round," Mr. Tatikyan said with just a hint of sarcasm.
