35-400 Million AMD Needed to Restore Erebuni Museum
According to a RA government decree of August 15, 2010, the Erebuni History Museum was transferred to the authority of the Yerevan Municipality.
It had been under the purview of the RA Ministry of Culture.
Museum Director Gagik Gyurjyan regards the move as a logical step since the museum has always been dedicated to the founding of Yerevan.
He says the museum needs immediate restoration work estimated in the range of 350-400 million AMD. The problem is that no one country has attempted to restore an 8th century BCE structure.
"Some parts of the structure are in such bad shape that there's a safety issue involved," Director Gyurjyan noted.
The Erebuni Museum opened its doors in 1968 and was timed to coincide with the 2,750 anniversary of the city.
