Juvenile Crime Up 300% in Gegharkunik
Juvenile crime jumped a whopping 300% in Gegharkunik Province, jumping from 11 reported cases last year to 42 this year. 22 of this year’s cases were thefts.
Gegharkunik Regional Governor Nver Poghosyan stated that greater attention must be paid to the education and upbringing of youth to turn them away from a life of crime. He said that area schools must call in the police as a last resort when and if pupils exhibit such tendencies. "One a child passes through the doors of the police they undergo a profound psychological change. We must prevent this from happening at all costs," he said.
