General Prosecutor’s Office Denies: No Employee of FBI Arrived in Armenia
In answer to mass media it is informed once again that the media publications stating that 8 FBI employees arrived in Armenia are false. No employee of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has come to Armenia connected with the criminal case initiated by the US law enforcement bodies on banking and Medicare frauds.
On October 21 U.S. FBI Legal Attace Kevin Donovan had a meeting with the RA Prosecutor General and stated that such media publications were nonsense and no FBI employee had arrived in Armenia. As for K. Donovan, it is informed that he is the regional FBI representative and his main residence is in Tbilisi.
During the meeting K. Donovan thanked Prosecutor General for the readiness of cooperation and mentioned that in case of necessity the United States would apply to Armenia for legal assistance. Till now the law enforcement bodies of Armenia have not received any request for legal assistance and the media publication stating that FBI employees have arrived in Armenia and carry out some examination are result of imagination.
No employee of the law enforcement body of one country can carry out investigation in the territory of another country without coming to a prior agreement with the law enforcement bodies of that country. The USA and Armenia cooperated and provided legal assistance to each other in the framework of concrete criminal cases and the mentioned criminal case is not an exception. If there is a request of legal assistance, the RA General Prosecutor’s Office will assist within its competence. So far no request has been received.
