Court Presents “Partial” New Year’s Gift to Investigative Journalists, NGO
Today, the RA Civil Court of Appeals partially ruled in favour of the Investigative Journalists NGO when it cut the amount of compensation to be paid to the Ijevan Municipality from 930,000 to 450,000 AMD.
Presiding Judge Nakhshoun Tavaratsyan ruled that the NGO had to publish a retraction of earlier articles appearing in Hetq that "defamed the working reputation of the Ijevan Municipality and the dignity, honor and working reputation of Ijevan Mayor V. Nersisyan."
The Kentron and Nork-Marash First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction had ruled in favour of the Ijevan authorities who had sought 930,000 AMD as compensation for legal fees incurred.
The case has dragged through the courts for over two years.
