On Thursday, December 2, there will be a tree planting ceremony at the besieged “Vishap Monument” garden in Yerevan. A company called “Air Construction” is planning to erect a multistory building on a 2,000 square meter tract of land next to the garden. Local residents have expressed their opposition to the plan. Armenia’s Ministry of Nature Protection is allocating 100 saplings for the planting. The Ministry also says that on November 30 staffers from the Environmental Inspectorate prevented heavy equipment from entering the garden. They are also monitoring the site to see that no trees are felled during the construction taking place next door.
