Ara Oshagan’s Work Selected as One of the “Highlights of 2010”

The documentary photography web-site SocialDocumentary.net has selected the photograph by American-Armenian photographer Ara Oshagan as one of the “Highlights of 2010.”
On the whole 14 works have been selected as “Highlights of 2010” by photographers from different countries, Afghanistan, Cuba, Zanzibar (Tanzania), US, Armenia, Madagascar, Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Georgia, Serbia, India. As Glenn Ruga, the founder and director of SocialDocumentary.net notes, in choosing these exhibits 3 factors have been considered, the power of the photographic image, the commitment and respect for the subject matter as demonstrated in the text and the images, as well as the diversity of issues and locations. “The third factor required that some exhibits, while certainly as deserving of recognition as these fourteen, were not included only because there was an over-representation of the particular subject or geographical location,” Glenn Ruga notes. Other photographs taken by Ara Oshagan in Artsakh, Armenia and published in his book called “Father Land”, have also been presented in the web-site. The book also contains the text written by the photographer’s father, famous writer Vahe Oshagan. “Father Land” is a book about the history and present-day life of Artsakh.
