Newly elected Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan stated today at consultative working session that new construction in downtown Yerevan would decrease and that nothing new would be permitted to be built at the cost of the Armenian capital’s dwindling green space. Mayor Karapetyan said his administration would also be taking a much tougher line against illegal construction and that monitoring of such violations would be on-going. He also directed the Department of Public Transportation to compile a list of all parking spots and register them legally. A call was also made to come up with a new and more effective traffic scheme for the city which has seen a marked increase in private automobile traffic over the years.
