“Arabo” Commander – Armenia Must Grow; Army Must Improve

Manvel Yeghiazaryan, who lead the Arabo Commando Unit into battle in Artsakh, told reporters today that, when asked to comment on the anniversary commemorating the founding of the RA Army, that while he represents neither the opposition or the government, he would hope the two sides unite in case of a resumption of warfare. Commander Yeghiazaryan also lamented the fact that only a small portion of the historic Armenian homeland is now under the control of Armenians. When asked if he thought that Armenia’s oligarchs would go off to defend Armenia, Yeghiazaryan responded, "If they don’t, we must convince them otherwise." This reporter asked Mr. Yeghiazaryan if the recent troubles plaguing Armenia’s military should be exposed. His answer was that if such investigations led to some positive results, the punishment of those responsible, it was to be welcomed. "Otherwise, it would seem that we are constantly berating our army. Such incidents happen in all armies. Sure, such infractions must be exposed. But it doesn’t mean that our military is bad," said Yeghiazaryan. The war vet said that Armenia didn’t have the resources necessary to maintain a professional, volunteer army. When asked what needed to change within the army to improve conditions, Yeghiazaryan said that the present atmosphere must be cleansed and a breath of fresh air needs to circulate. "The time is over for us to march in place. Armenia must grow and have a quality army. The rule of law must be established in Armenia."
