MP Arzakantsyan Sues "Yerkir" for 3.5 Million AMD
MP Tigran Arzakantsyan has sued the newspaper Yerkir for slander and is seeking 3.568 million AMD in compensatory damages.
The suit stems from a January 13 article, entitled "131 faces and masks" appearing in Yerkir that offered an overview of the MP. After publication of the article, Arzakantsyan wrote a letter to Yerkir and the paper noted its receipt in a February 5 article.
The paper stated that the MP had written a very literate letter and philosophical essay extolling the former Yerkir. The MP had also sent the paper a copy of a notice signed by Hrant Bagratyan in which the former Prime Minister denies ever saying about Arzakantsyan, "That rube has gone and discredited our cognac in Russia."
Yerkir then agreed to reprint the letter if MP Arzakantsyan came to the paper’s office and wrote it again, in the same perfect Armenian, in front of them.
