Armenia's New Human Rights Defender
Karen Andreasyan was elected Armenia’s new Human Rights Defender today by a vote of 83 to 13. He was the only candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority.
The ARF parliamentary faction voted against Andreasyan. "We oppose the procedure of nomination of the Ombudsman rather than the candidate himself," faction head Vahan Hovhannisyan said.
Following the vote, Karen Andreasyan promised to be unbiased when carrying out his duties and work with utmost diligence.
Mr. Andraeasyan is a member of Armenia’s Chamber of Advocates and has taught law at Yerevan State University.
