Heritage Party MP Stepan Safaryan has told Hetq that it will not renounce its seats in Armenia’s National Assembly, deciding that such a move wouldn’t be appropriate at this time. Rumors were abuzz that Heritage might decide to do so after party leader Raffi Hovannisian implied as such during a speech in the parliament on February 28 when he criticized the recently signed document between the coalition members backing the candidacy of current President Serzh Sargsyan in the 2013 presidential election. Upon uttering the words, "Take and eat these few opposition mandates, you in positions of power", the Heritage Party faction left the parliament and declared that it’s further participation in the current session was "up in the air". MP Safaryan, commenting on criticism coming from certain ruling coalition MP’s that the Heritage Party statement was a publicity stunt linked to the third anniversary of the March 1 unrest, declared that such an opinion was a tragic reflection of the current political discourse in Armenia. "Certain blockheads with the ruling coalition link this move of ours to March 1. For us, March 1 is a day of remembrance, to pay respects to all the victims. For the regime, March 1 is a day when it murdered ten individuals three years ago.
