Catholicos Garegin II, Supreme Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church, issued a directive today to defrock Father Ktridj Devechian, an American-Armenian priest who served as personal assistant to the church leader. Father Ktridj (Armen Devechian) had requested that he be allowed to leave the laity due to his recent divorce. The priest had been sent to Calcutta, India, to oversee the troubled Armenian Philanthropic Academy. An architect by profession, Father Ktridj had been married to an Armenian woman from Fresno, California.
