Swiss, Armenian Presidents Meet in Yerevan

President Serzh Sargsyan today met with Swiss Federal President Micheline Calmy-Rey, who arrived in Armenia on a two-day official visit. The Swiss President will meet also Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians. In Yerevan, President Calmy-Rey will open the newly established Swiss embassy. Until now Switzerland has maintained a diplomatic presence in Armenia through the Office of the Embassy of Switzerland in Yerevan. A visit to the second largest city of Gyumri in the north-west of the country is also planned. This area was hit particularly hard by an earthquake in 1988. The Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC) runs an education project there focused on the issue of catastrophe prevention.
