Sardarapat Movement Seminar on ''Arab Movements & Regional Developments''
The Sardarapat Movement organized a seminar/discussion today in Yerevan on the topic, "Arab Movements and Regional Developments".
Held in the Writers’ Union assembly hall, the seminar was kicked off by a few words from Tigran Khzmalyan, who noted that the focus of world events had once again returned to the Middle East, and by extension the southern Caucasus, and that Armenia could not avoid experiencing the ripple effects of developments in the Arab world.
Speakers included Garegin Chukaszyan, a technology analyst, who presented a overview of the underlying factors at work in the Arab world during the last few decade; Arpineh Galfayan, President of the Human Rights and Democracy Institute; journalist Armen Hovhannisyan, who talked about civic action specifically geared to the language issue in Armenia; Artur Avtandilyan, a young member of the Strategic Political Group, who spoke about the role of students and young people in Armenia on the road towards change; Artin Arakelyan, an Iranian specialist.
Wrapping up the discussion was Harutyun Mesrobyan, a governance specialist, who spoke of the atmosphere of uncertainty dominating in Armenia towards the future.
A rousing rendition of the song "Sardarapat" by those in attendance brought the seminar to a close.
