Gegharkunik Marzpet to Sue Paper for Slander
Gegharkunik Regional Governor Nver Poghosyan is planning to sue the Zhoghovourd newspaper for slander.
The paper ran a piece today claiming that Poghosyan pocketed a $3,000 bribe in return for proclaiming a certain individual as the winner in a local competition to fill the post of history teacher in the village of Tutujur.
The paper says the allegation was made by another candidate for the post.
An official statement from the Gegharkunik Regional Authority (Marzpetaran) says that it has no knowledge of such a competition other than the fact that the principal of the Tutujur High School had previously announced a teaching vacancy.
The Authority says that the principal violated procedure regarding the vacancy competition and that disciplinary action had been taken.
