The Armenian grandmaster trails former world champ Viswanathan Anand by one full point (6.5 to 5.5 points).
Sergey Karjakin, Shakhriyar and Peter Svidler share third place with 5 points.
In eleventh round action tomorrow, Aronyan plays Svidler.
The tournament is scheduled for fourteen rounds of play with tie breaks if necessary.
