Armenia Bets on Casinos to Spur Job Creation & Growth: Extends Customs Tax Exemption
The Armenian government today granted a large casino group a three year exemption extension on paying any customs tax on gaming equipment imports.
To justify its decision, the government argues that Senator Group Ltd. is a pioneer in Armenia’s gaming sector and a major employer.
The company currently employs 118 people; 64 of which live outside Yerevan. Today’s decision boasts that the company will create another 32 jobs.
Last year, Senator Group imported 43 slot machines (aka one-arm bandits) and paid no customs tax thanks to the government exemption.
The Armenian government doesn’t hide its belief that the gaming sector is a vital component when it comes to developing the national economy.
According to the website of one of the company’s casinos, Royale Senator, jobs as poker dealers pay from $1000 - $1,300.
The site also encourages people to visit its casino, located in the picturesque resort town of Tzaghkadzor, by proclaiming that:
- We play fair
- We give a chance to win
- We play enthusiastically
- We make your game convenient, comfortable and safe
- We are a socially responsible company.
Perplexed readers can visit the casino’s site for detailed explanations of the above points.
