Armenian Wrestlers Getting Thrown for Losses at Tashkent Championship

14 wrestlers from Armenia are representing the country at the 2014 Wrestling World Championship that kicked off yesterday in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

One of the 14 Armenian wrestlers is a woman – Karine Shadoyan, who will be competing in the Freestyle category (69kg).

The men in the Freestyle category are Garik Barseghyan (57kg), Valodya Frangulyan (61KG), David Safaryan (65kg), Grigor Grigoryan (70kg) and Musa Murtazaliev (86kg).

Armenia’s Greco-Roman wrestlers are Roman Amoyan (59kg), Mihran Harutyunyan (66kg), Varsham Boranyan (71kg), Arsen Julfalkyan (75kg), Hrach Hovhannisyan (80kg), Artur Shahinyan (85kg), Artur Aleksanyan (98kg) and Vachik Yeghiazaryan (130kg).

In today’s matches in the 57, 70, 86 and 125 kg categories, Armenia’s wrestlers lost to their opponents.

Barseghyan lost to Mykola Aivazian representing Ukraine, and will not make it to the 1/8 round.

In the 70 kg qualifier, Grigor Grigoryan beat Yunfei Gui (China), but then lost to Nicolas Marable (USA) in the 1/8 final.

In the 1/16 final in the 86kg category, Musa Murtazaliev lost to Mihail Ganev (Bulgaria).

Tomorrow will see matches in the 61, 65, 74 and 97 kg categories.
