Political Resignations are Normal in Pre-Election Year

New Times political party leader Aram Karapetyan sees the recent wave of resignations with government administrative circles as a normal occurrence in the lead-up to next year’s parliamentary elections.

“The ruling administration wants to consolidate things in order to be able to overcome the pre-election challenges,” Karapetyan stated.

He argued that such resignations and other inexplicable developments will continue, noting the recent resignation of Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan.

Karapetyan said that he was inclined to believe that the mayor, as stated, resigned for personal reasons.

He went on to describe the ruling coalition as a bureaucratic structure devoid of any real ideology and that similar personnel changes were to be viewed as a process of power consolidation, nothing more.

Artak Davtyan, an MP with the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, stated that it was senseless to look for hidden agendas in the mayor’s resignation and that Karen Karapetyan would be an asset in whatever future position he chose.

He said that it was normal for the ruling coalition to lack any unifying ideology given that it is comprised of different parties, each with its own beliefs and visions.
