“If I return to Syria, I’ll die just once under fire. But in Armenia we die every day”
Ani Gevorgyan
The Syrian-Armenian Safar family started manufacturing shoes in Armenia eight months ago. It been an uphill battle ever since to remain in the country and work. At every turn the four member family confronts illegalities that are alien to them. As a result, they no longer feel a part of the homeland. For the past month they’ve rented a retail store on Teryan Street in Yerevan. But, day by day, their worst nightmares are coming true. There’s no business; just more fines and penalties to pay. Despite it all, the Safars want to remain in Armenia.
