Margarine Spreads Being Sold as Butter; Violators Fined 3 Million AMD
Laboratory testing has revealed that some firms are actually selling margarine spreads under the guise of butter at various Yerevan stores.
The tests were carried out by a special unit of the State Committee for Economic Protection.
The investigation has revealed that the following producers imported vegetable oil based “spreads” and marketed them under the name “butter”: Bio-Food, Brand Leader, Kartel-Anna, Feliks-Sarg and Artis.
Investigators also charge that the following retail companies actually changed the packaging labels on the product from “spread” to butter: Aleks Grig, SAS Group, Star Divide, Fresh and Nor Zovk.
Each of the above ten companies has been fined 3 million AMD (about $8,300).
