Government Extends Deadline to Install Hatchery Water Meters

A meeting took place between operators of large fish farms and Environment Minister Aram Haroutyunyan with the aim of resolving the matter of installing water meters.

Commercial hatchery operators have raised concerns about the price of the imported meters and the rezoning of their lands.

Minister Haroutyunyan delayed the deadline for meter installation until September 1 so that further discussions could be held on the matter. The National Metrological Institute of Armenia had come out with a report mentioning that new water measurement equipment would be needed for the large diameter pipes feeding the fish farms.

After the meeting, Minister Haroutyunyan directed his staff to closely monitor the Ararat valley, where many of the hatcheries are located, for illegal water wells and to prepare a report on all the wells operating in the area.
