Primate Reconsecrates Holy Cross Armenian Church in Akhaltskha
Bishop Vazgen Mirzhakhanyan, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, reconsecrated the 19th century Holy Cross Church in Akhaltskha on December 25.
The church is located in the village of Pokr Pamaj, founded in 1829 by refugees fleeing the Western Armenian provinces of Torkom and Garin.
In 1881, a parish school was established and operated until 1932, when it became a state school.
The church was renovated in 1993 by local benefactor Hovhannes Manoukyan and reopened its doors in 1995.
