Parliamentary Committee Chair to be Appointed to Constitutional Court
Hrayr Tovmasyan, who chairs the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and Protection of Human Rights in Armenia’s parliament, will renounce his membership in the ruling Republican Party of Armenia to qualify for appointment to the Constitutional Court.
Members of the court, according to the country’s constitution, cannot be members of a political party.
Tovmasyan told Hetq that he’s accepted the nomination to the Constitutional Court, made yesterday by parliament speaker Ara Babloyan, and that he has no desire to eventually become president of the court.
