Young People Speak Up; What They Expect from Pashinyan, the Prime Minister

Norayr Shoghikyan

There are thousands of young people, now gathered in Republic Square, waiting to see who their country’s next prime minister will be.

Their expectations range the gamut- reforms in agriculture, legal, health and other spheres, but they are confident in one thing. If these reforms take place, they will not emigrate.

Budding journalist Mher Taroyan has a list of expectations in case Nikol Pashinyan is elected prime minister, with the restoration of justice being the most important.

19-year-old Hayarpi Baghdasaryan is also awaiting justice, and she stresses the importance of granting freedom to political prisoners.

She says, "When all these political procedures end successfully, and the snap elections are held, resulting in a new government, I expect serious investigation into the case of March 1 (referring to March events of 2008, when 10 people were killed- ed.) and the punishment of those who are guilty.” Hayarpi is also concerned with the need to free political prisoners, particularly Gevorg Safaryan.

Gevorg Davtyan is confident that Pashinyan's election will bring positive changes in all spheres. "The Republicans have failed in all the spheres. Mr. Pashinyan represents people and I am sure he will take us to high peaks,” says Gevorg.
