Hetq has been informed that protests against yesterday’s approved bill to alter the parliament’s rules of procedure have broken out in towns across Armenia.

During yesterday’s Yerevan protests, Pashinyan called on citizens outside the Armenian capital to take to the streets and demand that snap elections be held in December.

Some 5,000 protesters have taken to the streets in Vanadzor, Armenia’s third largest city, according to reports from the town.

Similar protests occurred in the towns of Dilijan, Akhtala, Gyumri and Jermouk.

Thousands encircled the National Assembly in Yerevan to voice their disapproval of the approved bill that would allow for the stoppage of parliamentary sessions in force majeure circumstances or when MPs are prevented from voting, only to be continued when such hindrances are no longer present.

Pashinyan described the bill to alter the parliament’s rules of procedure as an artificial hindrance to the dissolution of the current parliament and the holding of snap elections.

Republican Party of Armenia, Prosperous Armenia and ARF MPs voted in favor of the bill. Only the Pashinyan-backed Yelk Alliance MPs voted against it.
