Pashinyan Wishes Sacked Provincial Governors Success in the Future

At today’s cabinet session, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wished the six provincial ministers he sacked the other day success in their future endeavors.

All six belong to either the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) of the ARF.

Pashinyan decided to dismiss the six after MPs from the two parties voted in favor of a bill on October 2, introduced by the Republican Party of Armenia, that would make it more difficult for  him to disband the legislature and call new elections.

Pashinyan labelled those who backed the bill as “counter-revolutionaries”.

The prime minister also sacked six government ministers representing the BHK and the ARF.

Those dismissed are Aragatzotn Governor Ashot Simonyan, Lori Governor Hrant Margaryan, Armavir Governor Gagik Mirijanyan, Vayots Dzor Governor Aragatz Saghatelyan, Gegharkunik Governor Ishkhan Saghatelyan and Syunik Governor Karen Hambardzumyan.

It is a strange understanding of parliamentary democracy to dismiss people which want to prevent Parliament from being dissolved more quickly. Why not a lost second round in May? The new elections would have taken place long ago.
