Armenia: Three New Provincial Governors Appointed
The Armenian government today appointed the new provincial governors of Lori, Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor.
Gnel Sanosyan (a member of the Civil Contract party) was appointed Gegharkunik Governor.
Trdat Sargsyan (a member of the My Step movement) was appointed Vayots Dzor Governor.
Andrei Ghukasyan (a member of the Civil Contract party) was appointed Lori Governor.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sacked six provincial governors on October 3 belonging to either the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) or ARF.
Pashinyan decided to dismiss the six after MPs from the two parties voted in favor of a bill on October 2, introduced by the Republican Party of Armenia, that would make it more difficult for him to disband the legislature and call new elections.
Pashinyan labelled those who backed the bill as “counter-revolutionaries”.
