Victims of the war

Anahit Hayrapetyan: ''I started taking photos of victims of the Nagorno Karabakh war since 2006. These are portraits of parents of the victims of the war in Karabakh 1988-1994. At that time I was traveling from one village in Artsakh to another, taking random photos. In Hin Taghlar village, which is in Hadrut region, I asked an elderly couple who lost their son to the war, to stand in front of his photo. As I saw the two halfs of their faces in my frame, this was first time when my feelings and the reality became the same for me. I continued to photograph the same way in my village Khtsaberd in Hadrut region.'' Now, wherever I go I am looking for families who lost their children during the war in Karabakh. Now it is becoming harder to find them. Time is passing, taking with it the important part from our lives. In some families the pain is so strong that they don't want to be photographed. Often I was asked "What will be changed in our lives or what use do these photo have?". I don't have an answer for that question. I hope these photos will change something in people's minds, and maybe something will be changed in their lives as well.
