Jivan was the dog living in our courtyard. The crisis probably forced him onto te streets. Jivan knew all the residents one by one, and their friends and guests. No strangers could get past him. During the 1990s, we became familiar with the expressions “dog catcher” and “dog shooter”. One day, coming home from school, my Jivan wasn’t in the courtyard. They had killed him.
