Freedom Square in Yerevan was overflowing with people at today’s rally in support of Raffi Hovannisian and his ongoing struggle to reject the official vote results of the February 18 presidential election.
Today, Raffi Hovannisian met with Prosperous Armenia Party President Gagik Tsarukyan to discuss the post-election situation in Armenia.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) on 19 February announced preliminary election results, indicating that incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan was re-elected in the first round. The second-placed candidate, Raffi Hovannisyan, disputed the results and claimed that he won the election.
On March 2 the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission promulgated the regular post-election interim report on the post-election developments following the presidential elections of the Republic of Armenia held on February 18. Particularly, the report touches upon the statements of the Police of the Republic of Armenia made in connection with the peaceful, but illegal meetings held by Raffi Hovhannisyan.
Raffi Hovannisian presented his observations and the massive report of electoral violations and fraud registered by his campaign headquarters and independent observers. Hovannisian and the ambassador discussed the possibility of disputing the election results in the Constitutional Court.
There are scores of families left homeless by the 1988 earthquake in Armenia who have been living in makeshift housing for the past 25 years.
