Two individuals at the center of a $900 million fraud at Kabul Bank were convicted of defrauding the Afghan people on Tuesday, according to a report by the New York Times. Sherkhan Farnood, the founder of Kabul Bank, and Khalilullah Frozi, his chief executive, were sentenced to five years of jail time each, and fined a combined $800 million, according to the Guardian. Azat Ghukasyan, mayor of the Syunik village of Hartashen, has been sentenced to 8 years for the rape of a 14 year-old girl. The girl was a student in Ghukasyan’s gym class at the local school. He was arrested last March for ordering the mentally challenged student into the gym and violating her sexually.
