One month ago, in an attempt to save the Azat River, residents of Garni closed the Yerevan- Garni road for eight hours. Their action forced the removal of construction equipment from the Azat Gorge. Today, a meeting was scheduled between community residents and government officials to discuss the Kaghtsrashen Gravity Irrigation System project which, if implemented, would transfer water from the Azat River to the Ararat Valley.
