Citing a low growth rate, double-digit unemployment, and one-third of the population living under the poverty line, World Bank experts told a Yerevan audience that the new model would target fundamental relations of growth-poverty and would resolve system-wide problems linked to a shrinking and aging labor base and climate change.
Armenia’s Yerkir Tsirani opposition party says it’s ready to launch a class action suit against Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan for embezzlement of public funds, incompetence, and other illegalities, all of which, the party argues, led to flooding of several major Yerevan streets on June 12.
Investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who’s known for his investigations into Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s alleged links to corruption, was kidnapped from Tbilisi, Georgia on May 29 and taken back to Baku, Azerbaijan. Next day he was charged with crossing the border illegally and stealing large sums of money.
The funding, suggested by Minister of Agriculture Ignaty Arakelyan, is part of 252 million AMD project, of which 108 million was allocated last December.
Armenian Minister of Justice Davit Harutyunyan told reporters today that he’ll be implementing gradual, but continuing steps, to do away with the roots of corruption and bribery within the country’s court system.
