Hartashen Mayor Azat Ghukasyan has been arrested and charged with the rape of a 14 year-old girl.

This is the latest development in a case where allegations of sexual impropriety had been made by the girl’s family against Ghukasyan, who, in addition to serving as mayor also teaches physical education at the local school.

At first, a criminal investigation based on Article 142 (Lecherous Acts) of the RA Criminal Code had been launched.

Yesterday, the charge was changed to Article 138 (Rape).

I found guilty, Ghukasyan faces a sentence of 4 to 10 years imprisonment.
