Armenian Parliament Sets AMD 14,000 Ton Tariff on Cement Imports

Armenia’s National Assembly, by a vote of 85-16, passed a bill that will obligate importers of cement to pay a 14,000-dram tariff for each ton.

The original version of the bill had set the import tariff as 22,000 drams.

Members of the Prosperous Armenia faction also voted in favor of the bill today despite earlier calls for much stiffer tariffs.

Prosperous Armenia head Gagik Tsarukyan, who owns Armenia’s largest cement plant, has been struggling to compete with cheaper imports from Iran.
