Another “Squirrel”: Four Civilian Helicopters Now Registered in Armenia

Armenian Helicopters, the only airline operating civilian helicopters in Armenia, has expanded its fleet by registering its fourth helicopter.

Established in 2018, the air carrier operates non-regular flights in Armenia and to Georgia, Russia and Turkey. It received an operator’s certificate in June 2018 and that same month registered its first aircraft, the American Robinson R66 helicopter (EK-H001, 1 pilot + 4 passengers). The helicopter was flown in Russia before being brought to Armenia.

In September 2018, the airline's second craft, the H130 T2 helicopter (EK-H002, 1 pilot + 6 passengers) was registered in Armenia (the craft was previously registered in Hungary). In the spring of 2018, the Armenian government issued a customs waiver to the Armenian Development and Investment Corporation UCO (Universal Credit Organization), the helicopter’s importer.

In March 2019, the third helicopter (EK-H004) received Armenian registration. It was an Airbus Helicopters' H125 model (1 pilot + 5 passengers), obtained from Airbus itself (France). The craft quickly became popular in Armenia for providing sanitation services.

It is not listed in Armenia’s Aircraft Registry, but theoretically there should have been the EK-H003 (SA 341G Gazelle) helicopter, for which the government granted the helicopter operator a customs license at the end of 2018. Furthermore, the aircraft is listed on the airline's website.

The next helicopter, as noted above, the operator's fourth craft in Armenia’s Aircraft Registry, is also a model H125, also known as "AS350 Écureuil" (Squirrel in French). The helicopter is registered in Armenia as EK-H005. The list is published by the Civil Aviation Committee.

Interestingly, according to Armenia’s Aircraft Registry, Armenian Helicopters has the biggest fleet, and airplane operators have at most three aircraft.
