Armenia Issues Arrest Warrant for Former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan
Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has issued an arrest warrant for former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan for his involvement in a scheme to seize a Yerevan kindergarten in 2009 worth 233.5 million drams.
Beglaryan, who served as Yerevan mayor from June 2009 to December 2010, has left the country according to the NSS.
The NSS reports that the incident is part of a larger investigation into abuse of power by former Yerevan municipal officials.
Beglaryan resigned as mayor after allegations that he attacked a presidential aide over a seat at a Placido Domingo concert.
In June 2012, Beglaryan was appointed Minister of Transport and Communication.
