Armenia: Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Urges Turkey to "Sober Up"

At today's special sitting of the Armenian National Assembly, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Ruben Rubinyan, chided Turkey for supporting Azerbaijan’s provocative military actions along Armenia’s northwestern border and called on Ankara to refrain from such declarations and to advise Baku to halt such actions, warning that the Armenian Armed Forces would “bring them to their senses” otherwise.

"Yesterday, Azerbaijan went the way of provocation and its aggressive actions continue today. Once again this reveals the reactionary and militaristic nature of this country. Our relevant departments have given a more than exhaustive assessment of Azerbaijan's actions, but in this context, I would like to speak about Turkey's response," Rubinyan said.

He noted that the Turkish Foreign Ministry had unconditionally supported Azerbaijan and, in fact, supported Azerbaijan's aggressive actions on the Armenian border. According to Rubinyan, in this way Turkey presents itself as a party to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and reaffirms the fact that it cannot play an international role in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"Moreover, the Turkish Foreign Minister gave an interview and called on Armenia to sober up. In this regard, I would like to say that we call on the Turkish authorities to sober up and then sober up Azerbaijan regarding their actions. If they do not immediately stop their aggressive actions on the border, our Armed Forces will sober them up. As the events of yesterday and today have shown, we can do this quite well,” he said.
