Pashinyan Says His Government Remains Transparent About Coronavirus

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today, at a government cabinet session, stated that the country is experiencing a spike of coronavirus infections and promised that his government is not concealing anything about the epidemic from the people.

"The Armenian government is 100% transparent about the coronavirus. We have not changed any number during this period. That’s to say what we know the Armenian public and the whole world knows. The only difference being that we can find out a few hours earlier than the others," said Pashinyan.

Pashinyan said Armenians must learn to live with the virus and that while the authorities will strictly enforce health safety regulations it’s up to each and every person to be responsible for their own health and that of their neighbors.

“We have agreed that the inspection bodies and the police will bolster monitoring of the rules. On the other hand, we must understand that we have red lines. The red line is when our hospital capacity will be exhausted. Then, we must try to make other decisions,” Pashinyan said.

Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan told his colleagues that the country’s hospitals accepting coronavirus patients now have 1,230 ordinary and 170 resuscitation beds, of which 30% are vacant.

"At any time or during a spike, in a day or two, we can use the entire resource, approximately 2,700-2,800 ordinary beds and 300 during resuscitation. The lowest number of coronavirus diseases was registered on September 11. Since then, the cases have been increasing, which is due to increased mobility and relaxed adherence of health rules,” Torosyan said.
